Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
